On April 10, 2002 a boy joined the Navy at age 21. He was very excited to join because that is what he always wanted to do. Plus he knew there had not been a World War for many, many years.
At the time he signed up he was very surprised that they excepted him and also that he was to start active duty in one day. He thought it would be a week or so because of how the slow the government usually is. What he did not know because he did not read the paper or watch the news that day, was that World War 3 had started in the Middle East.
When he found out that World War 3 had started he was shocked. He thought he had picked a perfect time to sign up. But he was wrong, totally wrong. He wanted to join during a time of peace. He hoped that he would not be part of it.
He was wrong. He was called into service and he was told to board the aircraft carrier. He was trained one week on board the ship on how to fly a plane. He was fresh meat in the navy so he was sent to fly first because he was not one of their more valuable pilots. He was not told the mission, all he was told was that it would end the war.
At the time he could not put his finger on what he meant by it would end the war. Half way through the flight he thought of what his captain said you will end the war. He knew now end the war meant like the war was ended in Japan. IT WAS AN ATOMIC BOMB. He was very scared and was frightened to think of what could happen if he did not do it right. He put the plane on auto pilot, and went to the back of the plane and armed the Atomic Bomb. He went back to the front of the plane and turned the auto pilot off. He flew the plane over the middle east the engines were roaring. over the mountainous terrain.
He flew his bomber back to the aircraft
carrier. The ship was now on its way to the U.S. He did what he had to
do he was a hero now. He ended the war and the Middle East countries gave
up. He flew home and was crowded with reporters and TV stations. Even the
president was there and he gave him a medal for bravery and was put to
a higher rank and gave the choice to leave the Navy. He excepted because
that was enough of a experience for a life time. His name was printed into
all the text books. Also he was added to all Navy and history web sites.
