Darralynn Jones - Principal
Darralynn Jones was honored to serve during the 2023-2024 school year as the assistant principal at Lyman Moore Middle School. She is excited now to take on the role of the school’s principal, as of July 1, 2024. Her goals are to maintain a JOYFUL and inclusive environment where each student is valued, implement important improvements, encourage a positive school culture, and promote academic achievement.
Darralynn is a native of Detroit, Michigan and is passionate about science and math. After graduation from high school, she moved to Ohio to pursue a degree in biology pre-med from Central State University and earned a bachelor's degree in biology. Next, she pursued a master's degree in educational leadership from Marygrove College. After graduate school, she started her family, then went into teaching grades 6-12. During her 17-year career as an educator, she has served students as both a teacher and in leadership roles as a content and cultural leader. She took great pride in serving the city of Detroit with compassion and leadership. This experience shaped her into a dedicated leader, striving to support all students, regardless of their backgrounds.
Emily Wells - Assistant Principal
Emily Wells, previously a Lyman Moore Middle School mentor teacher who has served on the school’s leadership team, is excited to take on the role of assistant principal, effective Sept. 1, 2024. She is eager to work with Moore Principal Darralynn Jones to build a community that is “Moore Together.”
Emily was thrilled to join the Portland Public Schools in 2015, returning to her hometown. At Moore, she has served as a special education teacher and case manager, the special education building-based liaison, and an English language arts teacher. She also has served on the school’s leadership team as both content and house team leads, in addition to being a mentor teacher.
Emily began her teaching career in the South Bronx, working at both the high school and middle school level, and was recognized in 2012 with the Bob Costas Award of the Teaching of Writing by the College Board. She later worked in East Oakland, Calif., gaining leadership experience as a lead and mentor teacher and common core instructional driver for the Aspire Charter School network.
