Three Board Members Re-elected

Three current Board of Public Education members whose seats were up for election Nov. 4 have each won new three-year terms. They faced no opposition on the ballot.Board members Sarah Lentz and Jayne Sawtelle were returned to their at-large seats, and Board member Julianne Opperman was re-elected to her District 3 seat.

Virtual HS Preference Night Sept. 29

Eighth-Grade Families: Please join us on Monday, September 29, from 6:30 p.m to 8 p.m., for a virtual discussion about the three different high school options — Casco Bay High School, Deering High School, and Portland High School — that the Portland Public Schools offers to students who will start ninth grade in the fall of 2026. Students will have the opportunity this fall to tell us which high school they would prefer to attend.

$1m Donation To Aid in Arts/Music Education

The Foundation for Portland Public Schools (FPPS) is thrilled to announce that it has received a $1 million donation, half of which is earmarked for supporting arts and music education in the Portland Public Schools system. The donation, made by anonymous donors through the Maine Community Foundation, will allow FPPS to build on existing arts and music programs and launch a new arts partnership. The remaining $500,000 from this generous donation is an unrestricted gift to FPPS.

PPS Retirees Honored June 10

More than 30 Portland Public Schools employees are retiring this school year. The retirees were honored by the Portland Board of Public Education and the district in a ceremony on Tuesday, June 10. Those recognized have served throughout the district and held a wide variety of roles in service of students and families.
