Letter from Principal - August 2022

Moore Families,

We have purchased ALL necessary school supplies for ALL students.  We will give these to students when they arrive in the fall.  I’m also excited to share that we will again partner with Rippleffect to offer outdoor leadership and community building experiences for ALL Moore students during the 22-23 school year.  We will send home specific details about programming for each grade level in September.

We remain committed to creating a safe school community that engages, supports, and respects every person for who they are and want to become.  At Moore, students and adults are working together to learn about real problems and make positive change in our communities.

This year we will continue growing our advisory program to make sure each student is known well by at least one adult and a small group of supportive peers.  Advisors will be reaching out to students and families in late August to help with the transition back to school.  Please contact your child’s advisor with any questions you have about how things are going at school.

We will continue to focus on teaching and re-teaching all students to be Respectful, be Responsible, and to Persevere through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  These are our Habits of Work and Learning (HOWLs), and will be a major focus in classrooms and common areas at Moore this year.

Finally, we will also continue to teach and learn in a proficiency-based system because we believe it gives all students the best opportunity to learn and grow.  In this system, teachers are clear with students about what they are learning and share specific examples of success.  Students then spend time learning and creating excellent work instead of trying to figure out what the teacher wants them to do.  Students are more responsible for their academic success, which is challenging in the short term, but pays off when they know how they are doing and what they need to work on next.

For 2022-2023, we will stay focused on knowing, supporting, challenging and listening to every student and family in our community.  This will be most effective if we work together.  Please reach out and share any questions or suggestions you have.

I look forward to working with you to grow the Moore community in the 2022-2023 school year and beyond.

Sincerely,
Ben Donaldson, Principal
